We had the pleasure of sitting down with Jack Blaylock, the host of Pop Palace Podcast, and got to have a conversation about pop royalties and where the future of pop music is heading.
Pop Palace is an educational podcast that explores the vibrant world of pop music and culture, with a specifically focusing on the influential women who have left an undeniable mark on the industry. Delving deep beyond the hits, exploring the impact artists have made on the industry and more. Whether you're a seasoned pop music connoisseur or curious and eager to explore, Pop Palace offers a unique lens to appreciate the genre's evolution, its iconic figures, and the imprint they've left on our world.
VIBRANT: Jack, you come from the south, in Oklahoma City. While OKC itself has a bigger music scene than the rest of the state, Oklahoma itself is not a pop heavy area. Where did
your obsession with pop music begin?
JACK: My pop obsession began freshman year of high school. I know late to the game,
however growing up queer in Oklahoma can be very isolating and I found a
community online in the pop music space. It all started with Lady Gaga and the
rest is history!
VIBRANT: Where did you get the idea for the Pop Palace Podcast ?
JACK: I have always been a creative person and in love with music. I am not musically
talented at all but still wanted to be creative in the music scene so I thought
creating a space for pop music lovers like me is a perfect start.
VIBRANT: Are there any particular artists in the pop genre that have had an impact on you as a person and who you’ve become today?
JACK: Lady Gaga started my passion for Pop music and I will forever be grateful. While
she provided amazing music she gave me so much more she gave me hope. My
favorite artists allowed me an escape. I have a personal holy trinity of pop music
and it is Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Lana Del Rey.
VIBRANT: Who do you feel has truly broken ground and changed the game for pop music,
paving a way for artists of the modern era?
JACK: I think we all owe Tina Turner and Madonna majority of the credit for current pop
music. Without them we would not have as bold and groundbreaking pop music. I
truly believe there will never be another Tina Turner or Madonna.

VIBRANT: Your current season features Madonna. What artists today remind you of pop royalty?
JACK: Chappell Roan.... She is changing everything. She reminds me of an early 90s
madonna. She pushes the boundaries not only in music but with her social awareness
and similar rebellion spirit.
VIBRANT: In your opinion, what solidifies somebody as a staple in the genre of pop music?
JACK: To me someone who solidifies as a staple in the genre in pop is their legacy within
their fans. I think fans have all the power. If an artists can create a community within
their music and the community shares similar values then you become a staple.
People like Madonna, Janet Jackson, and Tina Turner are all staples and have had
the same and new fans for decades.
VIBRANT: How do you feel pop music, queer or not, has played a hand in shaping the
LGBTQIA+ community?
JACK: I think pop stars are superheroes for gay people. Not for everyone but for me atleast
I always saw pop stars as real life superheroes who empower yourself to be true.
Through pop music queerness is accepted and celebrated and allows for LGBTQ+
people to dream and be themselves when so often they have to hide to the outside
world.
VIBRANT: What are you excited to see in the future as far as pop music and what would you like to see more of?
JACK: I am so excited about the rise of more unapologetically queer artists.
VIBRANT: For someone who has always slept on pop music and put it on the back burner, what is an essential album someone could use to ease themselves into the genre?
JACK: I would start with these albums - for a rock lover start with Like a Virgin by Madonna, indie lovers should start with Forever Neverland by MØ, and everyone should know Born to Die by Lana Del Rey.
VIBRANT: Are there any artists of today we should be watching out for and adding to our
playlists?
JACK: Lately I have been keeping an eye out on Maude Latour and Paris Snow.
VIBRANT: Thank you so much for your time and allowing us to interview you about the podcast
and your love of pop music. What do you have planned as far as the future of Pop
Palace goes and where can we find you to keep up?
JACK: I have some guest interviews in the works and season two is about a new pop queen
coming soon. You can find the podcast on all streaming platforms and on Instgram
